AT&T donate 20 000 calling cards to military personnel for free phone calls

AT&T telecommunications company has announced the donation of 50,000 prepaid
calling cards valued at more than $450,000, so far this year,for
distribution to military personnel in November and December 2007 stationed
overseas as part of a program to keep U.S. Armed Forces members and their
families connected.

Of the current 20,000 AT&T prepaid calling cards donation, half will be distributed
during USO entertainment tours at military bases slated for the weeks before
Thanksgiving. The remaining half will be distributed in early next month.
The USO (United Service Organizations providing morale, welfare and
recreational services to U.S. military personnel and their families) will
make the calling cards available to troops who are serving in Iraq, Kuwait,
Afghanistan, South Korea, Japan and Europe. Each donated phone card will
provide 20 free minutes of talk time from Iraq to the U.S.

AT&T has contributed tens of millions of dollars to the USO in support of
Operation USO Care Package, USO Operation Phone Home(R) and USO
entertainment tours. AT&T also has provided assistance to the USO through
funding regional operations in Europe, Southwest Asia and the Pacific. For
more than 85 years, AT&T has remained dedicated to supporting active
military personnel, their families and veterans through charitable
contributions, sponsorships, the hiring of military veterans and maintaining
policies that support reservists when called to duty.

I think AT&T initiative very praiseworthy because allow stay in connection
military personel with their relatives. When our family members is far
communication with them is more valuable especially if they in place as Iraq
or Afghanistan.
